water truck art car description: The old-timers say usually the playa surface is a hard crust, but this year the spring rains didn't come. Every bike that goes by brings a dust cloud with it. So the organizers decided to water the roads. You hear it before you see it: distant horn blasts followed by jubilant screaming. Everybody on the block is running pell-mell out of their tents. Some are pulling a towel around themselves, others are pulling their clothes off. You run to the road and there it is, huge, metallic, utilitarian, "POTABLE WATER" stamped across the side. Humbly invisible in the city, on the playa this lumbering leviathan has become an art car.
